Definition of the Clustering of Commodity Groups

In intralogistics, the allocation of storage space according to families of articles, also known as clustering, describes the adjacent storage of articles that are often ordered together by customers. For example, a cluster might consist of bolts, nuts, and washers. Due to the proximity of the articles, the picker has to walk or drive shorter distances during the picking process. The aim of clustering is therefore to reduce walking and transfer distances.
