Goals of Movement Strategies

There are several techniques used in logistics that aim to design efficient guideways and aisle paths. These are used to reduce process times in order-picking systems and to increase order-picking performance. Path and aisle strategies are a typical approach to minimizing the travel and walking distances of order pickers. The use of path or aisle strategies is particularly interesting in multi-aisle order picking systems. Rules are defined for the movement of order pickers through the process. The aim is to give the order picker an optimal processing sequence for each item in a picking order, and thus to guide the order picker optimally through the process. In this way, the order pickers follow a fixed route determined by the chosen strategy.
