Structure of Channel Storage Systems
A channel storage system is one in which several storage units are stored in channels one behind the other. In addition to common load carriers, a channel storage system consists of rack channels with a front-centering console and docking stations. Channel trucks are used in the racking channels, either manually by forklift trucks or automatically by driverless transport systems. The channel trucks store pallets independently or transport them to the appropriate storage areas. Compared to pallet racking, flow racking or automatic small parts, or high bay storage, the space utilization of a channel storage system is significantly higher. It also allows items to be grouped by channel rather than by full aisle. Channel storage systems are used where the storage area needs to be kept as small as possible. Channel storage technology is particularly suitable for low-volume, high-mix products such as those found in the food and beverage industries.
