The S-Shape Strategy for Efficient Route Planning- Functionality and Variants

The S-Shape Strategy (also known as the Traversal Strategy) describes a routing method in order picking where aisles are traversed completely. The picker enters each aisle at one end and exits at the other end before moving to the next aisle — creating a serpentine movement through the warehouse. The strategy exists in two variants: in the variant without skipping, all aisles are traversed completely regardless of whether pick positions are present. In the variant with skipping, aisles without pick positions are bypassed entirely, significantly reducing the total travel distance.
