Goal: Reduce Lane Utilization
Over-utilisation of individual areas or aisles is often an indication of sub-optimal product placement. For example, items with a high order volume or access rate (so-called A-items / fast-moving items) may only be placed in a few aisles. This is particularly the case in a fixed space layout. The aisles where the A-items are located are visited most frequently by employees, as these items appear in many orders and also need to be replenished frequently. With a high number of order pickers and replenishment staff, there is a risk of employees blocking each other in these aisles. This increases the risk of congestion, which in turn increases waiting times. If the affected aisles are also far from the distribution points, long distances or runs often have to be made. This results in additional unnecessary transport.
