Packing Pattern Formation in Several Dimensions
In intralogistics processes such as order picking or palletizing, packages (cartons, containers, unit loads, or articles) are assembled from a total quantity provided (assortment or stock) onto a load carrier (e.g. pallet). The stacking process is usually carried out manually based on order information that the workers carry with them during the process. The result is a two-dimensional (i.e. pure grade in layers) or three-dimensional (i.e. different package sizes in the mix) arrangement of packages, which is defined as a packing pattern.
