Determine the Segment Lengths of Waiting Times
When employees search for something or orient themselves, they usually stand still for a period of 5-15 seconds. Consequently, the effort for these activities can be determined by analyzing these waiting time segments.

Motion-Mining®
In the context of a Motion-Mining® project, the time portion of the activity for a process can be determined and divided into the different segment lengths.

Process Observation and Timing
During a process observation, the time portion of an activity can be recorded with the help of a stopwatch or a corresponding app. If all segments are recorded separately, the time in specific segments can also be determined.

Root Cause Analysis
There can be many reasons for orientation and search times. Common causes are
- Long texts on scanners, pick lists, monitors, etc.. An MTM analysis of the reading time can help determining the potential.
- Buffer areas that are not systemically maintained often lead to search and orientation times. A check using the 6S cycle can help in finding the causes.
