Acquisition of Dimensional Data with the Help of a Freight Measurement System

Modern cargo measurement systems are changing the way goods are received in warehouses and shipping centers. These systems use sensors mounted on the ceiling to record the dimensions of delivered pallets and packages. In doing so, the sensors scan the outer edges of the shipment, allowing a precise 3D depth image to be created. At the same time, the weight of the freight is automatically recorded. This information is then linked as master data with the relevant items and existing data records and transmitted to the Warehouse Management System (WMS). The entire process is completed in just a few seconds, fully automated and without any need for human intervention. A special feature of these systems compared to conventional volume scales is that they can also automatically identify large load carriers, especially fully loaded pallets, and record their master data.
