Goal: Congestion Reduction Through Alley Widening
When articles with a high order volume or access rate (so-called A-articles / fast-moving articles) are stored together in a small space, there is an increased risk of congestion. The risk arises because the articles appear in many orders and therefore many employees have to access the articles during their picking tour. As a result, employees in these high-traffic areas can get in each other's way. The more pickers there are in the aisles, the greater the risk. In addition to the waiting time caused by congestion, the concentration of employees also causes short shunting processes. One way to address these challenges is to increase the size of the warehouse.
