The ABC Method for Reducing Ergonomic Stress
The ABC method describes the classification or grouping of all items in a range according to any criteria. Typically, the method is used to group items according to the frequency of access to increase efficiency (see ABC Zoning). Alternatively, the method can be used to distribute items according to ergonomic aspects. The classification can be used to divide the items into three zones (ABC). The aim is to identify items with frequent access or high weight (A items) and to place them as sensibly as possible for the picker. The boundaries between the ABC groups can be chosen by the operator, but an orientation to the so-called Lorenz curve is suitable:
