5 in 5 with Sebastian from CAPTRON Solutions
In the latest episode of our podcast “Logistics Solutions – 5 Questions in 5 Minutes”, Paula talks to Sebastian Köhler from CAPTRON Solutions. The conversation focuses on smart sensor technologies and digital assistance systems for intralogistics. CAPTRON develops innovative technologies that enhance human-machine interaction – such as touch and pick-by-light systems that make logistics processes more efficient, safer, and easier to use.
Sebastian Köhler from CAPTRON Solutions talks about how smart sensor technology boosts efficiency in intralogistics.Listen to the episode here or continue reading the blog to find out the answers to the five key questions.
1. Briefly describe your company and product.
When millions of items are picked precisely and at lightning speed in Amazon's huge warehouses today, the technology behind it is often “Made in Germany”, or to be more precise, that of CAPTRON Solutions.
CAPTRON Solutions is part of CAPTRON Electronic GmbH and specializes in intelligent pick-by-light and put-to-light systems. What began with pushbuttons in buses and in mechanical engineering has developed into a high-tech full-service provider for modern warehouse logistics - and is changing the way companies around the world think about their processes.
From pushbutton to technology platform
CAPTRON Electronic GmbH is known for its robust capacitive pushbuttons - used in public transportation, for example. With its entry into order picking logistics, experience in sensor technology became a real competitive advantage: pick-by-light hardware for Amazon became the benchmark - today it is standard in all of the e-commerce giant's warehouses. But it didn't stop there: CAPTRON has developed into a solution provider with a broad portfolio that thinks beyond light signals.
2. What problem do you solve?
Order picking is the heart of logistics - and often the weak point. Errors, long search times and time-consuming training cost money and nerves. This is precisely where CAPTRON's solutions come in: With Pick-by-Light, the correct compartment is signaled by LED - search times are reduced, accuracy increases, and even new employees are ready for action after just a few minutes. Put-to-Light is the ideal complement for order consolidation, for example in conjunction with automated small parts warehouses such as Autostore.
3. What are your USPs?
The advantages are in the details - and in the system. With the cloud-based oneGRID platform, customers control their warehouse processes centrally - simply, intuitively and scalably. The smartLEDs on the shelves ensure maximum visibility and flexibility with minimum installation effort. For even more dynamic applications, CAPTRON also offers a mobile pick-by-light system in which the light moves directly with the order picker - without any fixed hardware installation. This is “Google Maps for the warehouse”, as the team likes to call it.
And because efficiency rarely stops at the software, CAPTRON supports its customers as a true full-service provider - from consulting and project management to integration. Shelves, scanners, infrastructure? Included on request.
4. Provide a concrete use case or success story that illustrates how your solution works in practice.
What does this look like in practice? For example, at a 3PL logistics service provider that uses a 60-metre-long put wall to efficiently sort clothing - fully equipped with CAPTRON's systems. Or in the current project with a pharmaceutical company, where CAPTRON is even responsible for the entire warehouse equipment - including shelving systems and scanner technology.
5. What future developments or trends do you see in the logistics industry and how are you preparing as a company?
The logistics industry is changing rapidly. Automation, data-driven processes and AI-based optimization are on the agenda of many companies. CAPTRON is ready: With open interfaces, data-based analyses (for example on turnover rates, picking speed or warehouse utilization) and the integration of artificial intelligence for even smarter picking, we are already working on tomorrow's solutions today.
Conclusion: If you want to work quickly, precisely and future-proof in logistics, CAPTRON Solutions is the right choice. Because here, picking is not just done with light - but with foresight.
