Automated small parts storage systems are designed to store small and medium sized items with high turnover. Items can be stored in containers, trays, or cartons. A small parts storage system with a storage and retrieval machine (SRM) is a software-controlled system that replaces manual storage and retrieval processes with mechanical ones. The SRM moves on a rail in the aisle and stores or retrieves load carriers from different racking levels with the help of a vertically operating lift truck. It operates over the entire height and length of the warehouse and performs storage operations automatically, quickly, and safely. With these systems, picking is carried out on a goods-to-person basis.
